Tell me where you are starting from
The first contact is free, and it is there to work out whether the problem can be addressed with software. It is not a sales pitch: if this is not the right fit, I say so straight away.
If you would rather write, four things are enough
- your name and company
- a way to reach you
- what you do, in one line
- what wastes most of your time today, or what you cannot manage to know
I reply within two working days.
On the fourth, it depends where you are starting from
This is not a fifth request: these are four ways of answering the same question.
- If you have a problem no program follows: what gets away from you, and how you notice. A warehouse count that does not add up, a job that turns out to have lost money once it is finished, half an hour a day retyping the same figures.
- If you pay a fee or a commission: what they charge you for, whether it is a flat fee, a percentage of every payment taken or a cost per user, and what you have to do by hand because in there it cannot be done.
- If you have an idea to get started: what you have in hand already, be it customers, an agreement or a deadline, and who is working on it. If you would rather sign a non-disclosure agreement before telling me about it, write that to me: I sign it before hearing it.
- If you come with an arrangement unlike these three: what you have in mind about how it gets paid for, and what you expect in return. It does not need to be well put.

What happens after you have written
I reply and we speak a first time, with no commitment. If the problem is one of the kind I take on, it moves to the analysis, and from there the project document comes. If it is not, I say so straight away.
The whole path, stage by stage
What you write to me stays between us: how I handle the data of people who contact me is written in the privacy notice.
